These are the steps i take to configure SSMS (ive ended up writing them down so i can remember for next time i wipe my machine!)

Enable row numbers:

Options -> Text Editor -> All Languages -> General -> (Display) Line Numbers

Enable Word Wrap:

Options -> Text Editor -> All Languages -> General -> (Settings) Word Wrap

Results to Grid and open in new tab:

Options -> Query Results -> Results to Grid -> Display results in a separate tab

Switch to Grid results:

Options -> Query Results -> Results to Grid -> Switch to results tab after the query executes

Include column headers with copy and paste:

Options -> Query Results -> Results to Grid -> Include column headers when copying or saving the results

Clean up Tab Text:

Options -> Text Editor -> Editor Tab and Status Bar -> (Tab Text)

Include database name (false)

Include login name (false)

Include server name (false)

Move Status bar to the top:

Options -> Text Editor -> Editor Tab and Status Bar -> (Status Bar Layout and Colors)

Enable new queries in SQLCMD mode:

Options -> Query Execution -> SQL Server -> General -> By default, open new queries in SQLCMD Mode

Add SQLCmd Mode Button to SQL Editor:

SSMS -> Tools -> Customize -> Commands -> Toolbar -> SQL Editor -> Add Command

In Categories scroll down to Query -> in Commands scroll down to SQLCMD Mode (Select it and click OK)

Attempt to open SSMS Quicker:

Change shortcut to start without the splash screen

May wish to configure it to always connect to the same server on start up using the

"ssms -E -S DEV-SQL -nosplash"

Use ssms /? To list the available options:

help

Disable Server certification revocation:

IE -> Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> (Security section) -> UNTICK “Check for server certificate revocation”
