As work is slowly moving to SQL Server 2012 we are also moving to Windows 2012. One of the joys of the newer OS’s is the security features to lock down applications running with elevated privileges when they aren’t needed. As an administrator you might want to always run an applications with “Administrator rights”. The work around is:

Direct from a .exe

Right click the icon -> Properties -> Compatibility -> Privilege Level

And ticking “Run this program as an administrator”

RunAsAdminPic1

Using a Shortcut

Right click the icon -> Properties -> Shortcuts tab -> Advanced

And ticking “Run as administrator”

RunAsAdminPic2
